We are yet to know what else they have stolen from the Indians,

Malaysia: Internal Security Act used to punish human rights activists

New information about the arbitrary detention of five Malaysian government critics obtained by Amnesty International researchers highlights the need for the Malaysian parliament to immediately abolish the country's Internal Security Act, Amnesty International said today.

A recent Amnesty International mission to Malaysia researching the human rights situation there established that the sole reason for the detention of five members of Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF), a group dedicated to defending the rights of Malaysia's ethnic South Asians, was for expressing concerns about the marginalization of ethnic South Asians within Malaysian society and specifically for organizing rallies.

He had then served as a volunteer and I offered him to undertake the post of pro tem treasurer.

HINDRAF views with deep concern statements by MIC leader Dato Seri Samy Velu that he has “spoken to” HINDRAF leaders and that they support MIC and the Barisan Candidate in Permatang Pauh.

This is a blatant lie by Dato Samy Velu and irresponsibly made to confuse the voters in Permatang Pauh.

We challenge Samy Velu to name the leaders he has “spoken to”. We are aware there are groups that call themselves Makkal Sakti (who are proxies of MIC) and are misleading the public so it may be possible Samy Velu has spoken to these “bogus supporters” who claim to represent HINDRAF.

More than 120 temple representatives present at a meeting organized by Malaysia Hindu Sangam at the Dewan Tan Sri K R Soma, KL yesterday were shocked that their temples and 2 existing Hindu Crematoriams were not identified at the master Plan of City of Kuala Lumpur by 2020.

What is of great concern to the community leaders is whether there is a plan to erase off hundreds of Hindu Temples and 2 crematoriams at Jalan Loke Yew and Sentul by the year 2020.

There was a feeling of disappointment and disgust when they were briefed on the Master Plan. They were informed that they have to send their note of protest using the appropriate DBKL Form by 30th August 2008. About 100 forms were distributed at the meeting.

After successfully launching Hindraf's 1st Jalur Gemilang event in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur attended by more than 3000 people, Hindraf continues it tireless struggle on the same day.

About 100 people had gathered in front of KL Convention Centre about 12.30 pm today.

They had a peace protest for more than 2 hours carrying banners and placards ("manila card") with various slogans. The group whom most dressed in their safron color dress were waving their placard to the passby people. Few foreign and local medias were seen covering the peace protest.

The Tamil Newspapers are making a big mistake by increasing prices. Their justification that because everyone is increasing prices they should also increase prices is not justified at all since they are already making money. They the Indian newspapers should not compare expenses with the other vernacular Newspapers as the other papers are thick in size, have their own reporters, journalists, writers on various subjects especially sports, researchers, a sizeable number of staff, own printing facilities etc. The Indian newspapers have a skeleton staff mainly to copy or to translate news from other papers or news agencies, one or two reporters and cameramen.
